Toronto Hosts First Tibetan Art Exhibition

The Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario and The Tibetan Canadian Cultural Centre in collaboration with the City of Toronto’s Assembly Hall proudly present Toronto’s first exhibition of unique art and culture of Tibet.

The Tibetan Art Exhibition focuses on fifty one modern and traditional Tibetan art pieces such as Thangka paintings (scroll paintings), sand mandalas, butter sculptures, traditional hand woven carpets, ceramics and other cultural artefacts.

The display represents the symbolic commemoration of the ongoing struggles of the Tibetan people and preservation of Tibetan culture.

Artwork has been created by various Tibetan and non-Tibetan artists who produced their works of art over a period of many decades; some bringing the pieces with them to Canada as passed on from one generation to the next. On display will be a ninth generation Thangka painting of Tibet.

Every artist is delighted to have this opportunity to share their heritage, creativity and insight. They are inspired by the opportunity to contribute to and rejoice in the Tibetan culture and traditions.

At the March 25, 2010 opening reception from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM a Sand Mandala by Gyurmey Tantric Monastery, which has been created to celebrate this exhibition, will be on display. A traditional Tibetan cultural performance is also part of the evening’s programming.
