Patrick Pietropoli Cityscapes at Axelle Fine Arts

Axelle Fine Arts will showcase the urban landscapes of Patrick Pietropoli which features the shifting perspectives of Paris, New York, Venice, and Florence. Open through April 17 2010.

Pietropoli’s New York cityscapes include scenes of: 570 Lexington Avenue, Empire State Building, Chelsea, Upper West Side, Hudson River views, Canal Street, Midtown East, Port of New York and the Financial District.

The exhibition will feature other major European cities as well. Pietropoli’s canvases are extremely detailed, large-scale works that characterize the city as an entity. Each painting utilizes color to convey tone, meaning and mood and the artist’s devotion to detail and lighting makes his seemingly-still images come alive. Pietropoli recently moved from Paris to Brooklyn and will be attending the event.

“I have no professional formation at all, actually, and I learned everything I know from my many visits over the years to the Louvre and all the big museums in Europe,” Pietropoli says. “I learned everything about technique from books. I know how this sounds, but I consider myself like a monk, who tries obstinately to find the Holy Grail.”
