The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) announced the election of two new members to its Board of Trustees: Joshua S. Friedman, Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Canyon Partners LLC, a Los Angeles-based asset management firm, and Steven F. Roth, Executive Vice President of World Oil Corporation, a family-owned oil company.
“It has been impressive to watch the continued growth of our board,” said LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director Michael Govan. “We welcome Joshua and Steven to our distinguished museum family during this pivotal moment in the LACMA’s history.”
LACMA board co-chair Andrew Gordon noted, “Joshua Friedman and Steven Roth are not only accomplished business people, but are accomplished philanthropists. Board co-chair Terry Semel and I are pleased that they will be brining their passion and expertise to LACMA.”
Joshua S. Friedman
Joshua S. Friedman is founder, Co-Chairman, and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Canyon Partners LLC, a leading global alternative asset management firm. Canyon specializes in credit-oriented investments for endowments, foundations, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and other institutional investors. Canyon also invests in real estate through Canyon Capital Realty Advisors and the Canyon Johnson Urban Fund. Mr. Friedman is a trustee of a number of non-profit and charitable organizations, including the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and the California Science Center. He was recently honored by the Cedars-Sinai Medical Genetics Institute and, along with his wife Beth, by the Independent School Alliance for Minority Affairs. Through their family foundation, the Friedmans have recently made endowment gifts to Wellesley College’s Madeline Korbel Albright Institute for Global Affairs, Sinai Temple’s Israel Center, Harvard University, as well as supported a host of other institutions in the fields of education and medicine.
Steven F. Roth
Steven F. Roth is the Executive Vice President of World Oil Corporation, a family-owned oil company that is one of the largest privately owned businesses in California. Mr. Roth is also Vice Chairman of World Oil affiliate DeMenno-Kerdoon, which operates one of the largest hazardous waste recycling facilities in the Western United States. World also owns one of the premier asphalt refineries in Southern California. Additionally, Mr. Roth was one of the original founding partners of Creative Artists Agency, and served as Vice Chairman of the board of International Creative Management. Through the Steven F. Roth Family Foundation and the Bernard and Florence Roth Family Foundation, he and his family have made significant contributions to LACMA, Special Olympics, Wilshire Boulevard Temple, and the Music Center of Los Angeles County, among many others. He is currently a board member of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
