Bonhams Hong Kong Fine Chinese Paintings and Contemporary Asian Art Sale

In addition to the Mary and Geroge Bloch Collection of Lin Fengmian paintings, the sale of Fine Chinese Paintings and Contemporary Asian Art offer 77 lots.

Lin FengmianHighlights are two oil paintings from Lin Fengmian from the Chinese Opera Series- Female Warrior of the Yangs and Stealing the Royal Horse, which are very rare and valuable. They were purchased in Shanghai by an English private collector between 1958-1961 and estimated between HK$2 million to $3 million each.

Other highlights include Still Life, a rare oil on canvas painting by female artist Pan Yuiliang (1895-1977) with an estimate of HK$1 million to $1.5 million. Pan Yuiliang was probably the only Chinese female artist among the first generation of Chinese artists living in France. From the works of renowned modern Chinese artist Xu Beihong (1895-1953) are two ink paintings Two Drinking Horses (estimate: HK$250,000 – $350,00) and Guanyin (estimate: HK$150,000 – $250,000).

There is also a collection of eleven 19th and 20th century Chinese paintings from a private collection in San Francisco that were purchased at Hong Kong auctions and galleries in the 1980s. They include the Lu Yanshao (1909-1993)’s Landscape handscroll (estimate: HK$200,000 – $300,000) and Ren Yi (1840-1895)’s Zhong Kui (estimate: HK$200,000 – $300,000).

From the works of the famed artist Zhang Daqian (1899-1983) are Lotus (estimate: HK$400,000 – $600,000) and Blue and Green Landscape (estimate: HK$300,000 – $500,000). Both were purchased at the Laky Galleries, Carmel, California.

On the contemporary front are works from Ding Xiongquan (Walassse Ting, b.1929), Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head (oil painting, estimate HK$550,000 – 750,000), Blue Reclining Woman with Cat (estimate: HK$200,000 – $250,000) and Do You Like My Parrots (estimate: HK$200,000 – $250,000). All of them were exhibited at the London Arts Group, Detroit, Michigan.
