Henri Fantin-Latour Retrospective at the Museo Thyssen-Bournemisza

From September 29th to January 10th 2010, the Museo Thyssen-Bournemisza will be hosting a retrospective of the French painter Henri Fantin-Latour.

Organised in collaboration with the Fundacao Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, it his the first time his work has been showcased in Spain.

Born in 1836, Fantin-Latour shard similar aesthetic aspirations to the likes of Manet, Degas and Whistler.

However, unlike them, he did not go down in history as one of the great pioneers of modern art.

According to the museum, this exhibition will “seek to do him justice” and effectively showcase his talents.

More than 70 pieces will go on display in total, including oil paintings and drawings on loan from various museums and collections from around the world.

The Museo Thyssen-Bournemisza is also home to several permanent collections, with works ranging from the 13th century to late 20th century.
