The Brigantine Beach Cultural Arts Commission, in collaboration with the Brigantine Beach Historical Society, is sponsoring a Summer Fine Arts Festival from July 13 to August 24, at the Brigantine Historical Museum, 3607 Brigantine Boulevard, Brigantine. We invite you to visit.
You will be amazed to find the range of artistry and the amount of talent teeming on our little island. Over thirty local artists will exhibit a variety of media including watercolor, acrylic, sculpture, wood carving, stained glass mosaic, beaded jewelry, photography and needlepoint, among others. These local artists are eager to strut their stuff for a summer audience.
The museum’s hours of operation are from 11 AM to 2 PM from Monday through Saturday, and Sunday from 1 to 4 PM. Most entries are for sale, so bring cash or check because you are bound to find something you just can’t live without.
Check out our two “Meet the Artist” events planned during the exhibit; the first on Sunday July 12, from 6 – 8 PM, and Sunday August 2, from 6 to 8 PM. Patrons will be able to gather with our artists, discuss their work, while nibbling light refreshments. We hope if you are in town at either of those times, you will stop by and join us for an interesting evening of conversation, information and socializing. A beach community offers abundant opportunities for artistic urges to emerge and blossom, and we are offering you the unique opportunity to come look over our creations and maybe even take one or two home with you to enjoy for years to come. For further information or directions, please contact the Historical Museum at 609-266-9339.
Featured Local Artists:
Carol Roth has been an artist for 60 years. Her love of art started in grade school when she discovered she could copy almost anything. Watercolor is a medium that has its own mind and is not easily controlled. However, over time she found that this was going to be her medium of choice. She still maintains a love-hate relationship with the watercolor-when a painting is good it can be very good but when it’s bad it becomes muddy, dull and horrid. Carol loves painting flowers and landscapes often using her camera for reference photos. Presently, she is studying with Kim Weiland, Signature Member ASMA, in Ocean City.
David Flett was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Having met and married a “Jersey Girl”, he currently lives in Brigantine, NJ. Dave has worked as a full time freelance artist all of his life. With a successful career in both the fine arts and commercial arts fields, David is able to capture the personality of each person he draws. His technique has evolved through 35 years of drawing and experimenting with technique…..more like “mini-portraits,” his caricatures are done quickly and with great skill.
