Bloomsbury Auctions Supports Art for L’Aquila

Bloomsbury Auctions is delighted to be assisting in supporting an event to raise funds towards the restoration of the 18th century church Santa Maria del Suffragio, in L’Aquila. One of Abruzzo’s most important and beautiful churches, it was damaged extensively by the earthquake that struck the region on April 6th 2009, and has become a symbol to many of the tragic devastation suffered that night and from the subsequent aftershocks.

Project Art Minerva, run by Pelino Santilli, Blandine Martin and Magdalena Rutkowska, is organizing two exhibitions of contemporary artwork by international artists, many well-established, including L’Aquila & Abruzzo artists. The first event takes place at the Italian Cultural Institute in London from the 29th of June through to the 5th of July, with a reception and auction on the 2nd of July, and it is this auction that Bloomsbury will be directly involved with. One of our most experienced auctioneers, Dido Arthur, will be taking the sale, and she brings a personal connection to the event as she lived for a short time in the university town L’Aquila. There will be food & drinks available throughout the evening, with Chelsea Chef Rufus Achille providing light snacks and Villa Almé wines being served. A mirror event will be held the last week of July in Paris at the Centre of Culture. Mystery celebrity guests will also be in attendance!
