Santa Fe International Sculpture Objects & Functional Art Fair

The International Sculpture Objects & Functional Art Fair has been a standing event in New York and Chicago. SOFA WEST premiers in Santa Fe June 11 to 14 and will feature 35 international dealers.

SOFA focuses on three-dimensional, contemporary art works and will be accompanied by a lecture series, including a talk by Pamela Kelly, director of licensing for the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, on Santa Fe’s unique design aesthetic.

SOFA WEST takes place at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center and tickets are $15 for a single day of general admission or $25 for a 4-day pass. The opening night preview on June 10 benefits the New Mexico Museum of Art Design Collection.

Rebecca Wurzberger, mayor pro tem of Santa Fe, said the event fits well with Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City and its reputation as an international arts market.

The University of New Mexico’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research produced a study in 2002 that showed the capital city’s arts and cultural industries and cultural tourism generated more than $1 billion in receipts, employed 12,567 workers (or 17.5 percent of the county’s total employment) and paid $231.5 million in wages and salaries.
