The Salmagundi Club is pleased to announce its second annual American Masters Fine Art Show and Sale, which will be on display April 29 through May 7, 2009, at 47 Fifth Avenue. The exhibition will be open to the public daily, 12:00-6:00 PM. The American Masters Sale will be held Friday, May 1, from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. A limited number of tickets are available for this Gala Event, and are $175 per person and $300 per couple. Net proceeds of the sale will go towards the Club’s Gallery Renovation Fund.
Some 45 nationally and internationally recognized contemporary fine artists will show over 100 pieces – paintings, drawings, etchings, woodblocks, and sculptures – for this premier art event. The 2009 American Masters welcomes back many of last year’s artists including William Acheff, Christopher Blossom, David Leffel, Clyde Aspevig, Walter Matia, Sherrie McGraw, Curt Walters; and several new faces as well, such as Richard Schmid, Scott Christensen, Sarah Lamb, Jane DeDecker, Sandy Scott and Dean Mitchell. Claudia Seymour, President of the Salmagundi Club, when asked to describe this exhibition said, “To say that they are stunning is an understatement: these pieces show the breadth and depth of traditional representational painting and sculpture at its very best, understanding of skill, breathing with life, resonating with passion. Some of these artists are quite young, and others. . . not so young, but they all share a vision of what can and should be expressed in a work of art, and they do so with variety, verisimilitude, and vibrancy.”
“Bringing this type of exhibition and sale to New York City is an incredible benefit for collectors and lovers of representational art. There will be something for everyone with prices ranging from $1000 to $100,000,” explained Tim Newton, curator of the show.
New this year running concurrently with American Masters will be an exhibition of works by Christopher Blossom. Known for his complex, detailed compositions of coastal scenes, Blossom is one of America’s foremost maritime artists. His paintings will hang in the newly renovated Patron’s Gallery.
