New York Arts of Pacific Asia Show

Despite rumors circulating in the Asian antiques and fine arts communities in Europe and Asia, the 15-year-old New York City fine arts fair, Arts of Pacific Asia, has not been cancelled. The Show will take place as scheduled March 14-18, in the midst of New York’s Spring Asia Week Auctions at a new location, 7W, on the 11th Floor of the Merchandise Marts exhibition center at 7 West 34th St.

New York Arts of Pacific Asia’s producers, Caskey-Lees, Topanga, CA, moved the show to the new location when Asia Week dates at the traditional venue, the 69th Regiment Armory became unavailable due to military activities in the Armory.

New York Arts of Pacific Asia, New York’s oldest and largest Asian Arts show, will again this year present 75 major U.S. and international galleries and dealers specializing in antique works from all of Asia, the Subcontinent and the Pacific Islands.

Spring Asia Week events this year include major auctions at Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Bonhams and Doyle’s, and gallery shows at the Fuller Building, Pace Wildenstein and numerous commercial galleries around the city. Only the International Asian Art Fair, originally to be held at the Park Avenue Armory, has succumbed to economic concerns. Nine former exhibitors from the International Asian Art Fair will exhibit at New York Arts of Pacific Asia in 2009.

New York Arts of Pacific Asia will be the fourth major event produced by Caskey Lees since January and East and West Coast experience, in both show attendance and sales suggests that despite the severity of the economic downturn, investment in museum-quality art objects remains active. The New York Ceramics Fair at the National Academy of Design in January, during Winter Antiques Week, exceeded exhibitors’ expectations in traffic and business, while the San Francisco Arts of Pacific Asia Show, February 5-8 and San Francisco Tribal and Textile Arts Show, February 12-14, both at Fort Mason, were as active, if not more active than in 2008.
