New York – Christie’s, the world’s leading art business, today announced the appointment of Karen Gray as General Counsel, Art Business, Americas, effective March 31. This appointment follows the creation of a global Legal and Risk Management Services team for the Christie’s Group. In this newly created role, Ms. Gray will oversee all legal affairs in the Americas for Christie’s art-related activities, including private sales, and will coordinate the delivery of all other aspects of legal and risk management services. She will also work closely with the Company’s art restitution department. Ms. Gray will be based in New York City. She will be a member of Christie’s Legal Leadership team and report to Nick Deeming, Group General Counsel, Christie’s International.

Ms. Gray joins Christies’ from Reuters America where she was Senior Vice President and Principal Legal Counsel of the company’s Business Support Group. In this role she managed the legal team responsible for all product and commercial matters in the Americas, including Reuters’ vendor and customer contracts.
Prior to joining Reuters in 2000, Ms. Gray spent five years as a health care/not-for-profit attorney at the international law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. Ms. Gray graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1995 and cum laude from Williams College with a B.A. degree in Religion in 1992.
