In 1933, Mildred C. Green’s painting “The Junk Man” won top honors at the Buffalo Society of Artists’ annual exhibition.
To folks at Goodwill Industries of Western New York — where six of the late artist’s paintings recently turned up in a collection bin, along with clothing and other items thrown out by faceless donors — that historical nugget seemed prophetic.
Green’s small, unframed oil paintings — three farm scenes and three harbor scenes — sold for $2,501 on Goodwill’s online auction site, www.shopgoodwill.com.
