”Sweet Arts Evening” Feb. 16 to Celebrate the Barn Studio of Art; Event at Cumberland County College to Feature Silent Art Auction

The first annual “Sweet Arts Evening” to celebrate The Barn Studio of Art and its artistic legacy in Southern New Jersey will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Cumberland County College in Vineland, N.J., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A silent auction featuring more than 35 artists’ works, including paintings by Glenn Rudderow, Stan Sperlak, Oliver Grimley, Mike Cagno, and Patricia Witt, will be conducted throughout the evening. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Barn Studio of Art non-profit corporation.

Housed in a former hay barn and flower shop, The Barn Studio of Art was founded in 1962 by Patricia Vanaman Witt, the “Artist Laureate of Millville.” Witt began studying art in 1937, attending the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and Glassboro State College, now Rowan University. The recipient of numerous awards for her works as an artist, Witt also has been recognized for her teaching and her work to protect her native South Jersey environment. In addition to numerous one-woman shows, she has been part of group shows at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia Art Alliance, The Noyes, Museum, Brian Parent Center, the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts, and as part of the American Painters in Paris Bicentennial in 1976 in Paris, France.

“I am honored that the legacy of the Barn will continue through the work of the Barn Studio of Art non-profit corporation,” said Witt. “It is my hope that the Art Spirit will continue to flourish in South Jersey for generations to come.”

Tickets to the first annual “Sweet Arts Evening” celebrating The Barn Studio of Art are available at the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts, 22 North High St., Millville, N.J.; Steelman Photographics & Custom Framing, 315 North High St., Millville, N.J.; and the Canvas Bag Gallery, 46 E. Commerce St, Bridgeton, N.J.; or by calling (856) 825-2626.

The cost is $25 for the wine & cheese, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and $50 for the wine & cheese; and dinner, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. The silent auction will be held throughout the evening, concluding at 8:30 p.m. The “Sweet Arts Evening” event will take place at Cumberland County College, 3322 College Dr., Vineland, N.J.
