The launch of CHRISTIAN CRAVO: Twenty Five Years at Throckmorton Fine Art

January 14 to February 27, 2016 is a not to be missed opportunity to view spectacular photographic images by one of Latin America’s most respected artists.

Christian Cravo’s upbringing was indelibly stamped by the contrasting environments he experienced being raised
partly in Brazil as the son of a celebrated artist father, and for many years in Denmark, his mother’s home.

The result of this union produced an extraordinary talent as young Christian decided to make his life’s work a true journey between fascinating and disparate cultures not just in Brazil and Denmark, but in India, Africa and Haiti, too.

Christian Cravo has won awards from the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia, the Mother Jones International Fund for Documentary Photography, a scholarship from the Vitae Foundation and a prestigious fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation for his studies of the Brazilian Northeast.

He was also nominated for the 2007 Paul Huf Award in the Netherlands, which selects the 100 most promising contemporary photographers, and in 2008 he received a nomination for the Prix Pictet (United Kingdom/Switzerland), the most important award for themes of sustainability in photography. He was the only South American photographer nominated.

Throckmorton Fine Art has represented Christian Cravo since 1996 – marking its twentieth anniversary year with this exhibition.
