Brigitte Halewitsch, who was born 1940 in Ostrava/CSR, and attended the Academy of Arts in Saarbrücken, uses etching and photographs to create her art. By personal as well as professional experience as psychoanalyst she is deeply convinced that crisis management is a powerful potential motor of human development.
Brigitte Halewitsch-Zersplitterung
The artist is drawn to etching and photographs because, as she states, “I am fascinated by this kind of alchemistic process that is never completely controllable.” In her art pieces on canvas and etchings, there is a strong sense of drama. Halewitsch’s portfolio is dominated by high-contrast black-and-white images that depict distorted architecture, and she employs intense, dizzying line to create motion and confusion on the page. When she does use color, it is typically monochromatic to achieve a specific mood. Beneath Halewitsch’s seemingly implacable art, there is tenderness and compassion – and a sincere hope that the destructive part of human nature will undergo a fundamental change.
