Gianni Renna A Path to New Horizons at Agora Gallery

Gianni Renna, an Italian artist with a long and illustrious career, constantly seeks to break his own boundaries – and the boundary between viewer and creator. His artistic journey has led him to abstraction using acrylic on canvas, and his bold geometric shapes meld with water-like reflections and distortions that add a sense of narrative and keep drawing the eye back for more. Renna’s ability to capture simplicity and complexity in the same canvas is profound. He uses simple color schemes that do not distract from the naked power of his shapes, masterfully extracting tension from basic forms. “Tension is the strength that encourages us to understand what surrounds us… Tension towards the unknown, and the desire to reach it,” he explains.

Renna was born in Milan, attended the Academy of Brera and the School of Applied Arts at Castello Sforzesco, and has displayed his work in many collective and individual exhibitions. While his current interest is in abstract art, his career has taken him down many paths of expression.
