The 22nd Annual Gowanus Open Studios (GOS) is Oct 20-21, 2018

The weekend of October 20-21, Gowanus once again will be host to one of Brooklyn’s biggest celebrations of local art and artists. Nearly 400 Gowanus artists and venues will open their doors to public, offering the rare, free opportunity to meet the artists, explore a variety of spaces, and see up close the wide-range of art being created in this vibrant and creative neighborhood.

Gowanus Open Studios 2018 has a record number of participating artists and a growing roster of sponsors, including Investors Bank, Lumena Aesthetics, The Bell House, Threes Brewing, and more. In its 22nd year, GOS has become not only a vehicle to drive awareness of local artists but also a chance to showcase the spirit of Gowanus as a whole.

“It is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, build the creative community, and support local artists. Without this annual event, the presence of artists in Gowanus would not be felt in such a powerful way, where we all come together to make this amazing thing happen,” explains Amy Williams, Arts Gowanus Deputy Director.

Justin Israelson, co-owner of Threes Brewing, says, “The fact that an organization like Arts Gowanus even exists is a testament not only to the thriving creative class in our neighborhood but also demonstrative of the support that those in our community have for one another. We are proud to play whatever role we can in helping them advocate for the insanely talented artists in our area.”

Visitors to GOS 2018 are welcome to go from studio to studio in any order, designing their own tours of the spaces. An online directory and map offer background on artists and a walking guide to the neighborhood. A select group of New York City artists will highlight some of their top picks in a series of ‘10 Studios to Visit During GOS 2018.’ Contributors include: Artists Jules De Balincourt, Trudy Benson, Todd Bienvenu, and Lydia Johnson; Gallery Directors and Curators Peter Luke Colon from DC Moore Gallery, Henry Chung and Robert Walden of Robert Henry Gallery.
