ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Claire Berenblum painter
Berenblum is an artist whose work explores themes of migration, family ties, distance, and memory. Claire’s recent work has challenged the dictum that “Art” cannot be decorative, and questioned the devaluation of beauty in the art establishment. Using natural and synthetic dyeing methods in combination with acrylic paint and inks, her work explores time and distance and on a celestial scale.

Colleen Cunningham collage artist
Cunningham’s current works are intricate paper collages that meld images from various sources including magazines, used books, catalogs, and historical illustrations. A great deal of the content of each collage is completely hidden, or only slightly revealed. She is compelled to place layer upon layer until satisfied. Her baroque constructions are a culmination of aesthetic gratification, impulse, and control.

Lou Spahn writer + artist
Svahn taught moving image analysis and deconstruction at La Sorbonne University in Paris, collaborates as an art critic with the New Media Department of the Centre Pompidou and co-founded Le Grand Gosier, winner of Young Talents of the City of Paris (2013). American Vignettes includes texts and drawings about ordinary events in NYC, creating short impressionistic scenes that focus on one moment and give a trenchant impression about life.

Fantasy Grandma comedy/performance
Listen to sick beats and make crafts with your Fantasy Grandma and her friends from the nursing home. Fantasy Grandma has performed at the New York Comedy Festival, New York Sketch Comedy Festival, Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, Upright Citizen’s Brigade, The Slipper Room and more. The Jello will flow.

Kay PS filmmaker/video designer
Kaz’s short films have been screened at festivals domestically and abroad. She has also directed music videos and is an alumna of AFI’s prestigious Directing Workshop for Women, where she won the Institute’s Jean Picker Firstenberg Award. She is the video artist in residence with internationally acclaimed NYC-based dance theater company, Witness Relocation. Her video design work has been called “hallucinatory” by The New York Times, and “audio-visual anarchy” by New York Magazine.
Don Nico DJ
Sometimes crooner, sometimes soprano. Spinning Italo, disco, funk, rap, soul, Afro, beat, doo wop, rock n’ roll, psychedelia, surf, classics, and world music.

Scandal with Coleman, Francis, and Maccabee
Performers/musicians Dina Maccabee, Michael Coleman and Evan Francis have come together to perform new/improvised music with elements of pop and afro-latin.
