Talking Art: Artists Using Technology to Increase Visibility

Artists Using Technology to Increase Visibility Daniel Milnor, Photographer at Large, Blurb Inc. Thursday, May 14, 2015 7pm

With a vast percentage of the world connected through modern technology, the opportunity for artists to capitalize on technology is real. Milnor believes that understanding the nuance of how certain technologies work is key to understanding how to personalize the message and create a sustainable artistic career.

Milnor will present approaches on how to navigate through the overabundance of technology-based tools available for artists. He will also offer effective ways to establishing a presence through websites and blogs, and give an overview of self-publishing books and catalogs.

Based in Southern California and New Mexico, Milnor is a Photographer at Large for Blurb Inc., the world’s premiere indie publishing platform. As an early adopter of select technologies such as print-on-demand books and magazines, Milnor has created and published over one hundred unique titles including the recently released “Manifesto Magazine,” which showcases the world’s best documentary photography.

Over the course of his more than twenty-five year career, Milnor was a newspaper, magazine and commercial photographer who now works primarily on long-term projects. He has travelled extensively for his work from rural corners of the U.S. to Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. He has taught at Art Center College of Design, Academy of Art University, and has conducted numerous workshops throughout the country. His work is in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, George Eastman House, and Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
