Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane announces Eva Rothschild exhibition

Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane presents Eva Rothschild an exhibition on view 23 May–21 September 2014.

Eva Rothschild exhibitionThe Irish artist Eva Rothschild is one of the most exciting protagonists of a generation of artists dealing with the expanded concept of sculpture. Her exhibition at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane is her first solo museum exhibition in Ireland.

Eva Rothschild’s work engages complex processes of selfhood and identity in relationship to meaning and culture. The history of 20th-century abstract art is deconstructed through her installations, and through the materialism of her objects they become inquiries into how we as humans develop structures (both physical and metaphoric) to support our values.

The objects created by Eva Rothschild bring us into a zone away from the theories of production and deconstruction. In this zone language itself is rendered mute, representation is erased and textual structures are reduced to blind alleyways. Instead Rothschild manages to deliver sensation, memory, perception, and personal idiosyncrasies through the transformation of materials into strange and unfamiliar artefacts.

Vestibule, a festival of contemporary art on Merrion Square, Dublin, from 16 May to 19 September, also features an outdoor sculpture by Eva Rothschild. Curated by Aoife Tunney, it includes artists Aleana Egan, Daniel Gustav Cramer and Eva Rothschild.

Eva Rothschild is currently participating in the Biennale of Sydney 2014 and has exhibited internationally, including the monumental site-specific 2009 installation Cold Corners at Tate Britain, London, and also at the Nasher Sculpture Centre, Dallas; Whitechapel Gallery, London; Kunstverein, Hannover; and The Hepworth, Wakefield, UK. She is represented by Stuart Shave/Modern Art, London; The Modern Institute, Glasgow; Galerie Eva Presenhuber, Zurich; and 303 Gallery, New York.

The Eva Rothschild exhibition is curated by Michael Dempsey.
