Pierce Ball Gallery presents Jacquelyn S. Wong photographs exhibition

New York City seems an unlikely place for a study of nature. But New York City native and artist Jacquelyn S. Wong found that opportunities abound throughout the hustle and bustle of the City.

Thanks to a trip to a small island off the coast of Maine, Wong began to observe and appreciate the world around her in a different way. Upon her return to NYC, she began photographing the small details and intimate, natural landscapes that go unnoticed by most. It allowed her to interact with the world in a different way. The stark contrast of the cacophonous, fast-paced world with the meditative quality of the natural world provided Wong with her photographic subjects – a stone, a leaf, a twig, a spiky seedpod. Her photographs are then altered digitally with drawing and painting, bringing color, line and texture to redefine and reshape the space.

“I actively manipulate the object within its space, extending its boundaries and altering its environment; thereby, transforming the object/environmental relationship, seeking to explore and experience each object in a new way,” says Wong.

Her work attracted the attention of Elizabeth P. Ball, Director of the Pierce Ball Gallery in Stamford, Connecticut. “When I saw Jacqui’s work, I felt as though I stepped into a Zen Garden with her compositions, colors and textures. They are elegant meditations of nature. I was thrilled that Jacqui agreed to a show at my gallery,” said Ball.

An exhibition of Jacquelyn S. Wong’s work called “Art of Line & Texture,” will be on display at the Pierce Ball Gallery in Stamford, Connecticut in June 2012.
