Edgemar Center of the Arts presents an exhibition of fine art by American contemporary painter and photographer Michelle Carmen Gomez

Michelle Danner Artistic Director, Edgemar Center of the Arts is pleased to announce the opening of its Fall exhibition featuring prints and paintings by notable photographer and artist Michelle Carmen Gomez this Sunday September 20th beginning at 3:00pm at the Edgemar Center of the Arts, at 2437 Main St. Santa Monica, California.

Edgemar Center of the Arts, will present a vast selection of Gomez’s prints and paintings. Her art, a kinetic blend of her serigraphs and freehand brushwork using vibrant acrylics on canvas, juxtaposes her classic photographic images against a more pop medium. Tommy Landau, established architect and founder of The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, California, commented that Michelle’s work is like, “Warhol without the cynicism.”

“The notion that any one of my photographs that connects with a viewer can translate to a work on canvas is expansive and inspiring to me,” says Gomez, “Most recently, I’ve begun a unique collaboration with actor and art connoisseur David Caruso on several conceptual paintings that have a political slant; I’m very proud of these pieces and understand the importance of ‘stretching’ yourself as an artist.”

Her paintings heighten the mythological components in her photographs. “Figurative images are mysterious, open to individual interpretation, often eliciting deep-rooted values. I hope my work does this for people and is also hopeful and fun because, after all, life should be celebrated,” says Gomez.

A native Texan, Gomez earned her Bachelors degree in journalism and Film from the University of Texas at Austin and has worked professionally as a fine art photographer, artist, film director, writer and actor. Gomez has ongoing exhibits in Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Las Vegas and her larger photographs, printed on aluminum and mounted on custom 48X64 birch frames, have become a signature style. Collectors of Gomez’s work include celebrities, corporations, private collectors and professional athletes. Michelle’s attention to detail and quality, combined with vibrant colors and her altruistic view, make her works of art a valued expression of spirit.
