Contemporary Artists Donate Work for Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation Fundraiser

The Children’s Cancer and Blood Foundation (CCBF) is proud to be hosting its second annual Contemporary Art Auction on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Sotheby’s New York, beginning at 6pm. Auction proceeds will support the work of the Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation, which funds clinical care, fosters research to help understand the causes of childhood cancers and blood disorders, and sponsors fellowship training of pediatricians in the subspecialty of pediatric hematology and oncology.

Mick-RocFoundation chairperson Les J. Lieberman spoke appreciatively of the artists, all of whom personally donated their pieces, “It is wonderful to have the support of such renowned artists who are generously donating some of their finest work to our cause. The money raised from this art auction will help us to ensure that every family receives care regardless of their ability to pay. We thank all of the artists who help make our art auction a success.”

Last year’s art auction at Phillips de Pury & Company was a huge success with proceeds totaling more than $400,000. The upcoming auction promises to once again be a unique opportunity for the art community to purchase exciting works by leading contemporary artists. Acquisitions will be free of the buyer’s premium, allowing all sale proceeds to go to the division.

Participating artists include: Jasper Johns, Donald Baechler, Richard Serra, Richard Pettibone, Tom Otterness, Massimo Vitali, Machiko Edmondson, Zhang Huan, Abelardo Morell, Matthew Pillsbury, Rita Ackermann, Mickalene Thomas, James Nares, Andres Serrano, and Will Ryman, among others.

Highlights of the CCBF’s Contemporary Art Auction include Richard Serra’s Oteiza, a painting estimated at $23,000 that focuses on a series of intersecting and overlapping ellipses; an intriguing Tom Otterness piece, Abstract Couple, of his renowned bronze figures, estimated at $17,000; and a captivating Richard Pettibone work, Andy Warhol “Campbell’s Soup Can, Split Pea,” 1962, estimated at $15,000. These works will be three of the pieces featured in the live auction, which begins at 7:30 pm.
