As part of PHotoEspaña 2009, the Exhibit Hall Channel of Isabel II presents Sergey Bratkov (Glory Days). Sergey Bratkov’s work is directly influenced by the marked realism that he has absorbed from the Ukrainian artist Boris Mikhailov. He reflects the misery omnipresent in his city, Charkov, in photographic works that fit within the framework of national socialist art and a radical realism.

This exhibition comprises 140 photographs and four videos that are part of the work made by photographer since 1990. Bratkov, who is both critical of and committed to the social reality existing after the collapse of the Soviet Union, records images of daily life that have a certain lyrical tone. This show covers his best-known series: Kids, Soldiers, Fighters.

Without Rules, Secretaries, Army Girls and My Moscow, in which he centres on panoramic photographs that contrast with his portraits based on complicity between the photographer and his subject.

Sergey Bratkov (Charkov, Ukraine, 1960) studied art in his city of birth. He has shown his work individually at the S.M.A.K. Museum in Ghent and the Center of Contemporary Art in Kiev. His oeuvre has represented Russia in the Venice and São Paulo Biennales and he participated in Manifesta 5 in San Sebastian.
