Goodwill auctions donated paintings by notable artist Mildred Green

In 1933, Mildred C. Green’s painting “The Junk Man” won top honors at the Buffalo Society of Artists’ annual exhibition.

To folks at Goodwill Industries of Western New York — where six of the late artist’s paintings recently turned up in a collection bin, along with clothing and other items thrown out by faceless donors — that historical nugget seemed prophetic.

Green’s small, unframed oil paintings — three farm scenes and three harbor scenes — sold for $2,501 on Goodwill’s online auction site,
